 Program Activities

Last year alone, the EMSC Program funded more than 75 grants, contracts, and cooperative agreements with pediatric emergency care issues as a major focus. In September 2007, the Program announced that nine new EMSC Targeted Issue grants had been awarded.

The Program also conducts workshops, meetings, and webcasts; collects and disseminates EMSC products and resources; maintains a website; conducts research and related-activities; and honors the invaluable contributions of those in the field though the National Heroes Awards.

For more information about these activities, access the Program's fiscal year highlights for years FY 2004 through FY 2006. In FY 2008, the EMSC Program released its EMSC Strategic Plan for FY 2008-FY 2010: Recommendations of the Partnership for Children Stakeholders Group.

Federal Agency Partners
The EMSC Program partners with other Federal agencies to carryout the Program’s mission.

• National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s (NHTSA) Emergency Medical Services (EMS) Division
  
  The goal of the EMS Division is to develop and enhance comprehensive emergency medical service systems to care for all injured or ill patients, not just those involved in vehicle-related crashes.
  
  
• Centers for Disease Control and Prevention’s (CDC) National Center for Health Statistics
  
  HRSA has an interagency agreement with the National Center for Health Statistics (NCHS) to conduct a supplement to the 2002 National Hospital Ambulatory Medican Care Survey (NHAMCS) that will collect information on the availability of pediatric equipment in its sample hospitals and then produce national estimates on inventory.
  
  
• Indian Health Services’ (IHS) Emergency Medical Services Program
  
  HRSA has an interagency agreement with the Indian Health Service (IHS) to provide liaison activities on funded EMSC initiatives including collaboration and communication, training initiatives tailored to tribal EMS program needs and pediatric injury prevention programs for American Indian/American Native populations.
